About the Sentencing Hub
Promoting evidence-based approaches to sentencing
The Hub
The Sentencing Hub is a new online resource designed to render information on sentencing clear, accessible, and evidence-based. The Hub aims to serve as a central point of reference for anyone seeking to understand how sentencing operates in England and Wales, from researchers and practitioners to policymakers, journalists, and the general public.
Our Objectives
- To promote evidence-informed debate about the aims and effects of sentencing;
- To bridge the gap between research and practice by informing and engaging with sentencers and legal practitioners;
- To bring peer-reviewed research findings to key stakeholders in the sentencing process, particularly sentencers and policymakers;
- To identify research and knowledge gaps and to conduct and/or commission research and systematic reviews of research; and
- To promote research findings on effective sentencing involving all key stakeholders, journalists, and the general public.
Most importantly, the Hub is user-driven. It will evolve in response to feedback from practitioners, researchers, and policymakers, ensuring that the most relevant and pressing questions are being addressed.
